Election Scheduling Guidelines

County Elections

Rhea County holds elections every two years with a primary in May and a general election on the first Thursday of August. The positions on the ballot include the County Road Supervisor, Property Assessor, Circuit Court Clerk, and school board members for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th districts. Four-year elected positions in the county include county executive, county commissioners, county trustee, registrar of deeds, property assessor, county clerk, circuit court clerk, sheriff, school board members and road supervisor. The family court judge position is elected every eight years.

Municipal Elections

Dayton holds elections every two years on the third Wednesday in April. Members of the city council serve for four-year terms. The council determines who will be named mayor and vice-mayor.

Graysville holds elections every four years in conjunction with the state and federal general elections on the first Tuesday in November. The candidate to receive the most votes is named mayor, and the candidate who receives the second-highest number of votes will be vice-mayor.

Spring City has elections every two years on the third Saturday in July. Commissioners serve four-year terms. The commissioners determine who will be named mayor and vice-mayor.
