Congressman Zach Wamp met with State Representative primary candidates this afternoon at the Rhea County Courthouse to encourage Republicans to come together in support of primary winner Bo Watson. The primary race for State Representative was composed of six candidates; Terry Conley, Bill Hollin, Don Pickrell, Daved Senters, Frank Stewart and Bo Watson. Senator David Fowler and State Senate Candidate Jerry Sharp were also in attendance.
Congressman Wamp gathered everyone in front of the courthouse and expressed excitement that so many great candidates came forth to run in the primary. He proudly announced that the Republican Party was alive and becoming a moving force in Rhea County. Now that District 31 had chosen a candidate, Wamp appealed to our party to unite behind Bo Watson and support him in the upcoming general election for State Representative. Leading by example, Wamp personally presented Watson with a check for a campaign contribution.
Senator David Fowler also endorsed Bo Watson, saying that he was the right man for Rhea County. He challenged voters not to make the mistake of voting for a Democratic candidate just because they are from Rhea and Watson lives in North Hamilton. Fowler added that a vote for Watson's opponent in the Nov. 2 election would essentially be a vote for Jimmy "Taxman" Naifeh, longtime Democratic Speaker of the House.
Bo Watson won the August primary and will face the Democratic challenger in the Nov. 2 General Election. Early Voting for the General Election is from October 13-28, 2004.
